Driver In Capital Region Single-Vehicle Crash Charged With Vehicular Manslaughter

A 28-year-old man from the region has been identified as the victim of a single-vehicle fatal crash in which the driver was charged with vehicular manslaughter.

The collision occurred in Greene County at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, on Route 54 in the town of New Baltimore.

According to Capt. Joel Rowell of the Greene County Sheriff's Office, an investigation into the fatal crash found that a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee being operated by 43-year-old Columbia County resident Evan Kravitz of Hudson was headed southwest on CR 54 when the vehicle went off the roadway and struck several trees. 

The passenger was identified as 29-year-old Vance Cohen of Hudson and was pronounced dead at the scene, Rowell said.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office charged Kravitz with:

  • Vehicular manslaughter
  • Driving while ability impaired by drugs 

Kravitz was arraigned in the Town of New Baltimore Court and remanded to the Greene County Jail without bail.
